Our ward is hosting an Easter celebration for the first time this year. On the one hand it's been hard to plan since it has never been done (in our ward) before. On the other hand, we feel so much freedom in planning. We can do whatever we want because nobody has any expectations!
We chose to go with the theme "He is Risen," as we had a desire to keep the focus of the event on Jesus Christ. The plan is to start with a light brunch (breakfast casseroles, fruit, doughnuts, juice, etc) and then some of our Youth and ward leaders are putting on an Easter shadow play like this one. (Warning: grab tissues. I dare you not to cry at how beautiful it is!)
We're decorating with Easter pastel tablecloths, simple flowers in the center of the tables and little framed pictures of Christ walking out of the tomb that say "He is Risen."
In addition, our Primary children are putting together their annual service project. We'll be collecting and packaging items for the Principal Pantries in our school districts. It's been so fun to see the Primary leaders work with the Valiant Activity children to put that together.
I created these "He is Risen" themed activity sheets to have at each place setting. The idea is to give the kids something to do while they're waiting to fill up their plates or once they're done eating or in between activities. We're going to alternate between the Junior and Senior activity pages in every other spot, and leave a few crayons and pencils at every table.
Since I had a hard time finding LDS-specific resources, I thought I would share these with you as a freebie. Here's a link where you can grab a copy for yourself!
